TDI has had an active presence in the Central African Republic (CAR) for almost six years, most notably in the capital city of Bangui.
An industry leader in the Mine Action industry, TDI’s sphere of competences in the CAR are not limited to only risk mitigation and the clearing of unexploded ordnance but also extend to training and the provision of risk education.
Currently, one TDI Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team and an additional Physical Security Stockpile Management (PSSM) Team provide training and instruction to the Central African Military (FACA) and Security Forces to meet the needs of the population who are at risk of explosive material.
The aim of the above-mentioned teams is to train and support the different personnel of the FACA and Security Forces in EOD techniques in order to destroy the explosive remnants of war that characterise many parts of the country. Furthermore, training is delivered to the military and police in ammunition storage techniques along with the disposal and transport of bulk ammunition.
Up until mid-2019, TDI had removed and destroyed over 1,950,000 objects of Small Arms Ammunition and 92,000 items of unexploded ordnance. In excess of 2,400 personnel have been trained in Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) and initial Counter-IED. Under the guidance of qualified personnel, TDI continues to thwart the threat of explosive hazards in the CAR in order to reduce the risks posed to the livelihoods of the local communities.
