TDI has supported Climate Wise since 2020. Climate Wise provides meaningful change by offsetting carbon footprints and improving the lives of those in the poorest communities. To date, TDI’s contributions have offset 369.5 tonnes of CO 2 which is the equivalent of 37,320 trees being planted and 1,795,531 miles offset in a typical family car.
Climate Wise partnered with Imire Rhino and Wildlife Conservancy in Zimbabwe to develop a reforestation project. They identified the reforestation and regeneration of indigenous woodlands as a major area of focus with Imire. The project has fenced off (with an electrified fence) a concentrated area of approximately 15 hectares to intensively regenerate old agricultural land back into indigenous forest. This forest will provide a future home and browsing for wildlife. Imire is home to nine black and four white rhinos as well as an orphaned elephant and a ground-breaking cheetah rewilding programme.
Approximately 2,000 indigenous trees were bought from locally owned tree nurseries at a mature and established stage of 2 years old. On the 26th of September TDI staff took part in the first tree planting ceremony at Imire where we were able to view the reforestation area and plant the first trees on the project. The balance will be planted in December once the rains begin to give them the best chance of survival. TDI are thrilled to be a part of this project with Climate Wise and look forward to supporting similar future initiatives.
