Mali has long been a victim of politically induced instability, civil war and conflict, dating back to its independence from France in 1960. Unexploded bombs and locally produced landmines from the 2012 civil war, are the primary cause of risk to the nation. Due to the country being landlocked between hostile territories all sides, hinders the delivery of aid and puts lives in danger.
