EOD, Survey, Clearance and Mine Risk Education in Somalia

BACKGROUND

In 2012, TDI were tasked with providing a range of mine action services in support of AMISOM in South Central Somalia.   The initial contract was for a period of one year which was then extended by an additional year.

ACTION

TDI provided 3x MRE Teams and 3x EOD Teams to carry out explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), survey, mine risk education (MRE) training, planning, supervising, conducting internal quality assurance and monitoring of operations.  TDI employed over 200 local nationals in the regions in which the company worked, providing job opportunities and training along the way.

OUTCOME

The TDI teams delivered risk education to over 132,600 recipients in total and cleared 2,466 items of unexploded ordnance, predominantly from the regions of Gedo and Galgaduud. The teams also destroyed 1,098 items of small arms ammunition (SAA). 

BAC was conducted on 558,751m2 of contaminated land which was cleared and given back to the local communities for future productive use.
